ArtShop: Kangaroos, Owls, & Whales

These thirteen paintings are the newest editions to my "Colors & Animals" Series! This most recent addition of artworks are some of my favorite pieces. (You can email me at birchandbees@gmail.com to get your own colorful animal paintings.)

ArtShop: The New Collection, Colorful Animals V2.0

I'm very excited to share this brand new collection of original paintings I've created! As I'm living out my third year in the beautiful Costa Rica, I can't help but be inspired by all the nature that surrounds me. In my studio, I began designing this collection and playing with one of the most magical aspects of life; color. (More about the new paintings...)

My first edition of paintings (version 1.0) was fantastic. The reception to the work was encouraging and pleasant. Yet I still felt that something was missing from the paintings. I already practiced refining my watercolor techniques on a daily basis for years. From my dedicated practice, I developed a special technique, completely unique to my work, and this series came to life. This new collection is expansive, giving me room to grow and the ability to offer original paintings to a wider audience.

I've already started working on new pieces, and there will be many more paintings coming soon.
However, I also offer commission services if you would like a custom painting of your own. You can choose any animal you can think of, and pick any colors you like! (Contact me at: birchandbees@gmail.com, and we'll get started!)

I hope you enjoy this new collection! It's a product of my own identity & interests; vegetarian, animal-lover, symbologist, color-enthusiast, and my desire to spread joy and love whenever I go. I adore these paintings and I can't wait to watch this series blossom into an expansive collection of beautiful paintings.

Visit my ArtShop, and pick out something special!

In The Shop: Colors & Animals

This morning I launched the first four pieces from my newest collection of paintings! "The Fox", "The Moose", "The Raccoon", and "The Skunk", are all available for purchase in the Birch & Bees Art Shop. I've been slowly working towards bringing this series to life and I'm proud to finally share it!

"For years, I've felt the drive and inspiration to create beautiful paintings which could bring happiness and "good vibes" to everyone around me. I decided to dedicate my time, energy, and talent into creating a new series which could accomplish just that.

The inspiration for this series originated when I asked myself; "What makes me feel happy?" The answer was colors and animals. And so, I started to paint." -Kaylee Hinrichs

Sneak Peak Sketches

(Drawings/Illustrations in my sketchbook. August 2012. By Kaylee Hinrichs.)

Here is a sneak peak of a new series of paintings I'm developing!

These are the black and white sketches that I created to test out different animal shapes, faces, and proportions. Most of my artworks/creations start out as written ideas/loose sketches, such as these. Having lots of design/sketch books allows me to try out all my ideas, collect inspiring colors, great reference imagery, and see a whole collection before I actually make it.

Next, I'll be sharing some of the colored sketches and palettes that formed a "jumping off point" for the first set of paintings.

Four Critters

("The Deer" By Kaylee Hinrichs. August 2012. W/C, Inks. 4" x 4")

("The Fox" by Kaylee Hinrichs. August 2012. W/C, Inks. 4" x 4")

("Bird of Paradise" by Kaylee Hinrichs. August 2012. W/C, Inks. 9" x 5")

("Moose" by Kaylee Hinrichs. August 2012. W/C, Inks. 9" x 9")

I'm trying to get back into the habit of working on my drawings/paintings every day. Watercolor and inks are some of my favorite mediums, and I love any excuse to play with colors.
(Not to mention how much I adore the deer and fox portraits. They are just so precious!)

Shutter Bug

(Photography By Kaylee Hinrichs)

I've been doing a lot of  impromptu photoshoots. I tend to enjoy doing these as it encourages me to pay attention to the beauty of where I am. I notice beautiful things right outside my front door which I may have otherwise missed. (Like how cute our welcome mat is.)

Studio Tour 2012

My studio is an open space right next to Daniel's studio, with a small garden area in the back. All of the tables and the clothing rack were handmade by me and Daniel. The two large island tables come together to made a table top that is 8 feet by 4 feet. Hidden behind the black and white ruffled curtains that I created, there is a second level to the table where I store most of my materials.

From this studio, I create everything. Paintings, blog content, DIY tutorials, brainstorm sessions, sewing projects. I like to consider it my headquarters.

(My studio space in natural lighting at 12pm noon.)
